Help us now with your donation to safeguard the historic Elias-Frank House!
The Elias-Frank House is at risk of being sold; endangering the enduring legacy of this historic landmark. To preserve its place in our history, we must raise approx. USD 1.87 million immediately.
Our Vision
Since 1938, the house has been a cornerstone in the lives of the Elias-Frank family. After the Shoah, it became a refuge for Otto Frank, the father of Anne Frank. For most of its occupancy, however, the house has been a home to the family. Anne Frank herself visited Basel a few times before the war. After the war, it was in the house that the family met and decided to publish Anne’s diaries to the world.
We aim to preserve the house as the historic home of the Elias-Frank family, and to honour its legacy as a place of refuge and outreach. Our vision is to open it as an inclusive space for intercultural, interreligious, and social dialogue — a contribution to shared remembrance and a home for all.
The descendants of Anne Frank are closely observing the growing anti-Semitism and increasing stigmatisation within society. It is important to them for dealing responsibly with the past, to draw conclusions from the present and to consciously shape the future. This includes enabling the heritage of the Basel landmark to continue and develop; celebrating the Elias-Frank House as a welcoming place of encounter.
